How Can severe Constipation be Treated?

I am 26 years old and for the last 26 days or so I am suffering irregularity in my bowel movement. Sometimes the stool is hard and sometimes soft and watery-like. I have dull pain in my lower abdomen.Sometimes I have nausea as well. Often I feel vague discomfort after eating and have a dull pain above my anus as well. Is it something serious?

Hi,
You are 26 year old and this is a very young age to have age related constipation problem. So, my advice is to introduce lifestyle changes that can reduce your constipation and other bowel moment abnormality.
1) A well balanced diet along with abundant vegetable fibres(e.g.. cucumber) will help a long way
2) Drink adequate water (about 3 litres per day)
3) Avoid spicy foods and foods that might be causing constipation like food having white refined flour (maida) as the main ingredients
4) Use squatting position toilets as this position reduced constipation and has slew of other benefits over sitting position toilets
Do follow the above advice, if after that you are still having bowel problems, consult a gastroenterologist for further evaluation. Hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic.
